Aileen Reed has picked The Flavour Thesaurus as one of the Telegraph‘s Christmas Books: “the charm is in the book proper, laid out encyclopedia fashion”. And in the Sunday Times‘ guide to the year’s best reads Bee Wilson called it “deservedly, a huge word-of-mouth hit”.

Some dates for your diary: I’ll be signing copies of The Flavour Thesaurus at the Heywood Hill bookshop, 10 Curzon Street, London W1J 5HH, between 6 and 7pm this Thursday, November 25th. On Thursday 9th December I’ll be signing at the Christmas Extravaganza at Waterstone’s Gower Street (82 Gower Street, London WC1E 6EQ) between 5 and 7pm: there’ll be “a jazz band, charity gift wrapping and festive refreshments and nibbles for all.” And on Saturday 11th December I’ll be giving a talk on flavour combinations as part of The Voyage of Epicuriosity at The School of Life, 70 Marchmont Street, London WC1N 1AB. Some nice recent mentions of The Flavour Thesaurus. Kate Winslet “heartily recommends” it in her Harper’s Bazaar guide to December. Tony Turnbull in The Times called it one of the two standout food books of the year. The Observer Food Monthly picked it as one of the 25 best cookbooks of 2010 (“A forensic yet fun exploration of food combinations and why they work”). It’s one of Pip McCormac’s best foodie books of the year in The Sunday Times Style Christmas Gift Guide. And Nigel Slater chose it as his book of the year in the Observer New Review: “It has intrigued, inspired, amused and occasionally infuriated me all year, and will for years to come.”

The Flavour Thesaurus has been shortlisted for the Food and Drink Book of the Year at the Galaxy National Book Awards. Winners to be announced on the 10th November, and the ceremony will be broadcast on More4 on November the 13th.
